Every family has
a story to tell

Personal, accurate genealogy research and custom family trees - crafted with care to reveal the forgotten stories behind your ancestors.

Genealogy research you can trust

From a compact four-generation family tree to deep dives spanning six generations and beyond - I create accurate, meaningful records that bring your family's past to life.

🔍

Accuracy First

Thorough, methodical research. I never add anything to a tree unless I'm confident the evidence supports it.

📜

Specialist Knowledge

My main expertise is UK records from the 1800s onwards, and I'm equally comfortable working with older, harder-to-read sources.

James, FamilyTrace genealogy researcher

Hi, I'm James

I've been fascinated by family history for as long as I can remember. What started as curiosity about my own ancestors has grown into a genuine passion - and eventually a service I'm proud to offer to others.

My specialism is UK records from the 1800s onwards: census records, birth, marriage and death certificates, parish records, military service records, and more. I'm also experienced with older documents where legibility and interpretation require a careful eye.

Every project I take on gets my full attention. I'll never rush a tree or add names I can't evidence - because I know how much this matters to the people who'll treasure it.

Common questions

How long does a project take?

It varies depending on how accessible the records are and the scope of the project. A four-generation starter tree typically takes 2–4 weeks. Larger or more complex projects may take longer - I'll always give you a realistic timescale before we begin.

What do I need to provide to get started?

As much or as little as you have! Even just a name, rough location, and a generation or two is enough to start. The more detail you can share, the further back I can often reach - but don't worry if your knowledge is limited.

What records do you use?

I use a wide range of records including census returns, birth, marriage and death certificates, parish registers, military records, trade directories, and newspaper archives. I have access to the main UK genealogy databases as well as some specialist sources.

Can you research families outside the UK?

My main expertise is UK records from the 1800s onwards. If your family emigrated from the UK I can often trace them up to that point. For research primarily outside the UK, get in touch and I'll let you know honestly whether I can help.

What format is the final family tree delivered in?

I'll deliver a clearly presented family tree digitally - suitable for printing, sharing with family, and keeping as a lasting record. Every entry includes the source evidence so you can see exactly how each detail was established.

What happens if you can't find anything?

Sometimes records simply don't exist or haven't survived - this is an honest part of genealogy research. I'll always be upfront about what I've been able to find and what the obstacles are. You'll never be charged for work that finds nothing.
